![]() Jack's obsession with Christmas leads him to usurp the role of Santa Claus. Nonetheless the townspeople agree to celebrate Christmas and take over the holiday. While Jack may slightly understand Christmas, the townspeople fail to do so and compare everything Jack says to their ideas of Halloween. Impressed by the feeling and style of Christmas, Jack presents the culture to the citizens of Halloween Town of his slightly inaccurate impressions. He ends up walking farther away from Halloweentown where he finds the holiday realms and is fascinated he also discovers the Christmas realm and accidentally falls into the portal to "Christmas Town". He wanders in the wilderness, wishing he could fill an empty part of him. Jack Skellington, "King of the pumpkin patch", is a respected entertainer amongst the citizens and grows tired of the repetitive yearly celebration of Halloween. Another Halloween has come and gone and everyone is returning from scaring people. Taking place in a land with doors to all holiday realms, "Halloween Town" is a dream world filled with citizens such as ghosts, ghouls, vampires, werewolves, witches, monsters, and deforms. Disney has reissued the film under their Disney Digital 3-D format in 2006. The Nightmare Before Christmas has been viewed with critical and financial success. Disney decided to finally give it a shot, but Touchstone Pictures, a division of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures responsible for more mature themes and darker toned movies that are targeted to an adult audience, would distribute the movie. So it was only in 1990 that both parts finally came to an agreement. Walt Disney Studios intinally thought Nightmare was actually "too dark and scary" to be released under the Walt Disney Pictures banner. Production started in July 1991 in San Francesco. Over the years, Burton's thoughts regularly returned to the project, and in 1990, Burton and Disney made a development deal. With the success of Vincent in 1982, Disney started to consider The Nightmare Before Christmas as either a short subject or 30-minute television special. The genesis of The Nightmare Before Christmas started with a poem by Burton as a Disney animator in the early-1980s. ![]() Jack is impressed by the feelings and style of Christmas, and believes he can take over the holiday by adding elements of Halloween. The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from " Halloween Town" who opens a portal to "Christmas Town". The remaining principal voice cast includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, Glenn Shadix, Ken Page, and William Hickey. Danny Elfman wrote the film score and provided the singing voice of Jack Skellington, as well as other minor characters.
